All right!!! Spring has finally sprung. The birds are singing the sun is shinning and people in Michigan are finally coming out of their hibernation.
The warmer the weather gets, the more people get out to do things and often their petz go with them. So we need to start thinking about how the weather affects the petz we love, both the ones with us and the ones at home. For those of us that have aquariums we need to consider what heat can do to our corals and fish.
Most aquariums need to be kept at about 78 degrees Fahrenheit. But that can be difficult to do when the outside temperature keeps heading up and up. So you can do a couple of things, first you need to think about what the temp is going to be during the hottest part of the day and whether you'll be home or not. Set an air conditioner up in your home to cool you and your aquarium on exceptionally hot days. For cooler days run a fan pointed at your aquarium, or leave cabinet and canopy doors open. Or if you really want to protect your investment look into a chiller, it can be quite an investment, but if you consider what you have already invested into your aquarium with time and money isn't it worth it? Come check out Extreme Petz for a chiller estimate.
Next week we'll think about our furry friends and the weather and what can be done for them.
